Anna

Founder and Chair

Anna founded Crantock Street Community Garden in 2017, leading on fundraising activities and bringing neighbours and volunteers together to turn an idea into a valued community space at the heart of Newquay. She believes shared spaces can build connections, improve wellbeing and help people feel that they belong.

 

Gilly

Volunteer and Plant Expert

Gilly has lived on Crantock Street for 32 years and is the group's green-fingered plant expert. She loves getting stuck into our gardening sessions, sharing her knowledge and making sure we pull up the weeds rather than the flowers! Gilly also grows many of the garden's plants from seed and is the life and soul of our community events.

Volunteer

Alice von Kohler has lived and worked close to Crantock Street Community Garden during her time in Newquay and continues to value the green space it provides for wildlife and the community who use it. She has a keen interest in being part of projects which celebrate and protect spaces and places which make Newquay such a special place to live.

Carolyn

Volunteer

Carolyn has run a business on Crantock Street for almost 20 years and lived there for the past 10, giving her a strong connection to the area and its community. Volunteering gives Carolyn a chance to give something back to the community she calls home, while gardening helps her switch off from a busy working life. She especially enjoys working alongside the dedicated group of women who make time to care for this important space.

Jo

Volunteer 

Jo joined the Crantock Street Community Garden gang around three years ago and has become the muscle of the group. She gets stuck into every gardening session, whether that means pulling out trees, climbing ladders or helping to keep the garden looking its best. Her homemade cakes always go down a treat at our Big Lunch events and have become a much-loved part of our community celebrations

Where is Crantock Street Community Garden?

Crantock Street Community Garden is located on Crantock Street near Treffry Court in Newquay, Cornwall (TR7 1LQ), just a short walk from the town centre. Head uphill past the cinema and you can't miss it.

Who can use the garden?

The garden is a community space, free to anyone to use.

How can I volunteer?

Everyone is welcome to get involved, whether you are an experienced gardener or a complete beginner. Get in touch via the Contact Us form!

Do I need gardening experience?

Not at all.Our sessions are friendly and informal, and there is always someone on hand to show you what to do.

Do I need to bring tools?

We have tools, gloves and everything you need!

Is the garden accessible?

At present, the garden is accessible, but is on two different levels which can be accessed from the street. Once the project has been completed, the garden will be on one level, and the ground will be much safer for wheelchairs, buggies and bikes. There are a number of benches around the garden, and a picnic bench currently, but the new design includes lots of new seating, situated around the garden.

Can children take part?

Absolutely, yes! We ask that they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Can local groups visit or use the space?

Absolutely, please get in touch if you would like to run an event or activity.
